The Bite of Winter’s Blast….

The bite of winter

crawls forward,

moving slowly, so slowly

over the surface of the earth….

sharp and stinging

bitter and blue.

It shocks and stuns

as it moves from the north

dipping down

slowly…. slowly

through the night

across the plains,

mountains and low places.

Ever moving,

creeping down

from the north

from the sky

bringing every living thing

to it’s knees.

The icy blast,

the hard, cold knives

of air and wind

cut through every inch

of space

and shows itself

to be more powerful

than anything

man can do

or say

or be.

I accidentally flagged your comment. I’m sorry, it was not intentional. I responded on my blog, though. I hope I flag you in general. I’m still getting used to WordPress mobile.

I’m not familiar with flagging, not sure what it means (I’m still sort of a novice here too)….anyway, don’t worry about it…get some sleep and have a good day tomorrow!

I hope I didn’t flag you in general. I love your feedback, and I love reading your poetry. It’s lovely!

    • teeks55 says:

Thanks Posi!! I’m sure it will be okay. Not sure what flagging is all about but I doubt there will be any harm. I thank you for the kind comments!

Haunting. The moon within the moon works very well with your poem too. Thank you for sharing. Hope you are well. Happy new year.

Thanks Vic….it is so bitter cold here and it feels especially eerie late at night. This cold snap is supposed to go for at least the next week…..tomorrow night’s wind chill will be in the 35 below zero category. I can’t even imagine it. I don’t want to go anywhere. It’s weird when it gets this cold….. the poem just sort of flowed out of me. Thanks again for the kind comments. P.S. I don’t remember if you accept awards, but I just nominated you for one. You can find the details here:
      Happy New Year!!

Reblogged this on The Nocturnal Laundress and commented:

Since it is again bitter cold here in the midwest, I thought I’d reblog this poem. I daresay I’m ready for spring.

  5. This is really great Julie, once again I’m reminded why I still live in the south! 🙂
